MANAGING DIRECTOR - David D A Mason BSc CEng CGeol MIMM FGS
A specialist Geotechnical Engineer/Geologist of 30 years experience and a graduate of Glasgow University, David Mason gained his early experience with a site investigation contractor before entering the consultancy world with some major consulting engineering firms. In 1984 he was appointed to establish the Scottish office of a major UK geotechnical and mining practise, successfully leading it to a niche place in the local market. In 1995, he left with several senior management colleagues to establish Mason Evans, subsequently leading the practice to prominence in the geo-environmental field.
In the course of his career, he has been involved in some of the most prestigious projects to have taken place in Scotland in recent years. These include the A82 Loch Lomond route, M74 Extension, Mossend Eurocentral development project, Ravenscraig Steelworks, Robroyston Technology Park, and the Cardowan Colliery Rehabilitation. Throughout his career, he estimates that he has been involved in over 10,000 development sites.
An Honorary Lecturer at Glasgow University, Mr. Mason has also provided expert evidence on a number of occasions at Public Enquiries and in Litigation.
DIRECTOR - Niall D Lawless BSc MSc CEng CGeol MIMM FGS
A graduate of the Universities of Glasgow and Durham, Niall Lawless is a geo-environmental specialist with 20 years consultancy experience. He is a founder Director of Mason Evans and has extensive experience in the investigation and remediation of ground constraints to development.
He has been involved in a number of significant reclamation schemes in recent years including Mossend Eurocentral, Ravenscraig Steelworks, Forge Retail Park, and the former Tennant’s Iron Work in Coatbridge, as well as numerous residential schemes.
Over the course of the last 5 years he has been involved in providing geo-environmental advice to a number of successful PFI/PPP bids.
DIRECTOR/SECRETARY - Maureen MacKay
A qualified member of the Association of Medical Secretaries Public Administrators and Receptionists since 1978, she began her career in the health service before developing her role as a senior administrator and PA within organisations in the service sectors. Her career has encompassed various aspects of office administration and accounting and she has been responsible for human resources, finance, purchasing and logistics management.
In 1986 she was appointed as Office Administrator and ultimately Company Secretary to the Scottish branch of a UK geotechnical and mining consultancy, where she remained until the establishment of Mason Evans. She is a founding Director in her role as Director/Secretary.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - Patrick Barry BSc MSc CGeol FGS
Patrick has 15 years experience working as an Engineering Geologist both in Scotland and Hong Kong.
Working for both consulting engineers and contractors, he has key experience in geological logging/mapping, site investigation, foundations, mineworkings and slope stabilisation techniques. In Scotland, his major projects have included various sites on Stirling’s carse land plus future road projects such as ‘Setting Forth’ and ‘M8-M74 Fastlink’. In Hong Kong he has worked as a contractor on various road, rail, housing and slope projects in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - Neil M Thomson BSc FGS
A graduate of Glasgow University with an Honours degree in Geology and Applied Geology, he joined the practise in 1995 having previously worked for both consultancy and contracting firms in the geo-environmental industries.
He provides key management support to the Firm's west of Scotland operations.
During the course of his career, Neil has been involved in the geo-environmental investigation and reclamation of several hundred sites.
